Annotation -
The subject gives a basic survey of mechanisms of materials degradation. Degradation due to mechanical forces (deformation, fracture, fatigue, wear) is mainly described. The other part is devoted to corrosion, i.e. degradation due to chemical reactions, degradation at high-temperatures and degradation due to radiation.
