1) Background basics I - Structure of DNA and RNA. The central dogma.

Gene structure and control.

2) Background basics II - Evolution. Protein structure and its

implication for bioinformatics. Dealing with databases.

3) Sequence alignment I - Pairwise sequence alignment. Similarity

database searching.

4) Sequence alignment II - Multiple sequence alignment. Profiles and

Hidden Markov Models.

5) Genome characteristics - Gene Detection and Genome Annotation.

Promoter and regulatory element prediction.

6) Evolutionary processes - Recovering evolutionary history. Building

phylogenetic trees.

7) Structural bioinformatics I - Protein structure basics. Nucleic

acid structure basics.

8) Structural bioinformatics II - Prediction of protein structure
