Annotation -
The subject presents the particular periods of the drug discovery process from searching for active structures to clinical testing. Emphasis is placed on the mutual relationships between biological activity of drugs, their chemical structures and physico-chemical properties.

Aim of the course -

Students will be able to:

  • understand issues of the structure-activity relationships of drugs
  • apply the basic QSAR principles
  • characterise drug's life inside the organism using enlarged knowledge in pharmacokinetics
  • understand issues of drug discovery

7) The LADME model, pharmacokinetics

8) Pharmacodynamics, Drug-receptor interactions

9, 10) Physico-chemical properties of drugs and their parametrization

11, 12) QSAR and its practical impacts, regression analysis, QSAR descriptors

13) Interpretation of regression relationships, dependent and independent variables, collinearity of parameters, selection of structure changes

14) Current QSAR approaches, the CoMFA method, similarity models, lead structures identification, molecular modelling
