Annotation -
The course Organic Chemistry of Selected Elements fills the gap between the Organic Chemistry course and the course Transition Metals in Organic Synthesis. It is targeted on properties, preparation and reactions of the compounds of specific 2nd period elements (organoboron and organofluorine chemistry), as well as of 3rd period elements (organosilicon, organophosphorus and organosulfur chemistry). Attention is also paid to structures and reaction mechanisms of both hard (organolithium, organomagnesium), and soft (organocuprates) organometallic compounds.

Aim of the course -

Students will be able to:

evaluate properties, synthesis and reactivity of organoboron compounds

evaluate properties, synthesis and reactivity of organofluorine compounds

evaluate properties, synthesis and reactivity of organoelement compounds of 3rd period (silicon, phosphorus and sulfur)

evaluate properties, synthesis and reactivity of hard (organolithium and organomagnesium) and soft (organocopper) organometals
