The course represents the first part of fundamental concepts of analytical chemistry for the study program CHEMISTRY. The principles of analytical methods are introduced considering the applications in different types of analytical laboratories from routine to scientific ones. Firstly, the classical chemical methods are explained. Secondly, the general concepts of instrumental methods are described with special focus on electrochemistry (potentiometry, voltammetry, polarography, coulometry), separation science (gas and liquid chromatography) and spectroscopy. The course is taught only together with the subsequent course Analytical chemistry B.

Students will be able to: Use fundamental analytical concepts, to describe principles of both qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses, including examples of gravimetric and titrimetric determinations. Describe principles of electroanalytical techniques, to know examples of potentiometric, voltammetric and conductometric determinations.
