Annotation -
The course is focused on important managerial skills that students can apply in leadership positions in practice. These are mainly the principles and rules of teamwork, team roles, and management of small and large teams. The role of laws, directives, and standards for the development of the field of chemistry, focusing on current European and national legislation, certification, and mandatory reporting systems in the field of chemistry is also discussed. The course also includes the issue of human resource management in organizations, ie placement of employees, performance management, and employee care systems. Furthermore, the course teaches the principles of communication between business entities and the public, which includes communication of the vision and mission of these entities, cooperation with local governments, sponsorship, relations with journalists, as well as crisis management, and other activities. The course teaches more teachers who combine theoretical information with practical experience in managerial positions.

Aim of the course -

Students will be able to:

Understand the function of roles in a team and know examples of successful teamwork.

Find basic laws, guidelines and standards in the field of chemistry and understand their principles.

Solve problems with job filling and manage employee performance.

Use public relations tools and know the rules for relations with the media and third parties.

Syllabus -

Human resources management in organizations (M. Botek PhD., MSc; 4 hours):

• Turnover and placement of employees - ways of filling jobs, the role of line managers in selection processes, job descriptions. Reasons for firing employees.

• Performance management - evaluation and remuneration of employees, employee benefits, the involvement of line managers in the process of employee training.

• Employee care - working regime and working hours, the stress in the workplace, and its minimization.

• Expats and foreign workers - communication, ethical and other specifics.

The role of laws, directives and standards for the development of the field of chemistry (A. Beran MSc.; 4 hours):

• Laws and standards and their role in today's society. Legal binding.

• How these documents are created, what the relationship is between them and how they can be involved in this process.

• Decisive legislative and normative institutions and bodies.

• EU legislation - basic formats and decisive current EU legislative documents in the field of chemistry.

• National legislation - laws, decrees, regulations and standards - decisive current documents in the field of chemistry

• The relationship between EU legislation and national legislation.

• International certifications, significance, procedures and signed certificates. The importance of certification.

• Systems and areas of mandatory reporting in the field of chemistry.

Teamwork, strategies and methods of team management (M. Botek PhD., MSc; 4 hours):

• Definition and decisive characteristics of the team.

• Rules, meaning, specifics of teamwork.

• Decisive role in the team.

• Team communication.

• The importance of a team approach for project management.

• Advantages and disadvantages of teamwork, examples of successful teamwork

Communication and public relations of a business entity or organization (O. Kutnohorská, PhD. MSc.; 4 hours):

• Public relations. Objectives and structure. Used tools and communication channels. Mission and vision of the company. Relationship between PR department and company management.

• External relations. Proactive management of relations with surrounding municipalities, organizations and associations, with the public. Responses to questions and comments from the public. Sponsorship, donations and volunteering. Crisis management.

• Media relations. Proactive and reactive communication of the company. Target groups and communication channels. Press department and the role of the press spokesperson, press release. Solving media crises. Relations with journalists.

• Corporate identity and its rules in the daily activities of the company. Logo and visual identity. Publishing of corporate information materials. Rules for issuing press releases and other mandatory reports. Web and social networks.
