• The main goal of the course is to teach students how to apply methods of economic research in their own research projects. • Students will be able to evaluate the quality of data and decide on the appropriate method of processing according to the data type. • Students will be able to structure the output of economic research to the appropriate target group of readership.

1. Research in economics - Issues that economic research deals with. Economic thinking, ethics in economic research.

2. Determination of the state of scientific knowledge - theoretical framing of research, sources of literature, definition of research goals and research questions.

3. Structure of economic research - choice of the form of future output, choice of the audience, selected output, structure of the research output, preparation of the output.

4. Data collection - primary and secondary data, publicly available sources, selection of data and evaluation of their usability, representativeness of the sample, experimental economics.

5. Qualitative research methods - investigation of a research design, interviews, focus groups, observations, case studies.

6. Qualitative research methods - data processing (methods, software), conclusions from data.

7. Qualitative research methods - examples.

8. Quantitative research methods - econometric approaches to causality, applied econometrics.

9. Quantitative research methods - randomized studies, matching methods (propensity score matching).

10. Quantitative research methods - differences in differences, instrumental variables, regression discontinuity.

11. Quantitative research methods - structural models.

12. Quantitative research methods - examples.

13. Combining qualitative and quantitative research in economics.

14. Presentation of research results - forms of outputs and their impacts on the dissemination of information on research results.
