This course introduces students to the forensic DNA analysis as the dominant method of determining the origin of biological material. It describes biological principles on which the field is based, application circuits (criminology, kinship analysis, identification analysis, bioarcheology, recreational genetics), principles of analysis from the collection of biological material to final evaluation. It brings an overview of non-ID analysis and includes the basics of forensic statistics in the field of genetic analysis.

Students will be able to: communicate effectively in the field of forensic DNA analysis (verbal interpretation of data, formulation of conclusions of expert reports, expert arguments in court). In addition they will be able to understand the basics of DNA analysis and its integration with the other forensic sciences and basic and additional applications and capabilities field; shall know the current commonly used methods and expertise understanding their nature, they will be able to claim the standard expertise to design satisfactory method of analysis, will be able to understand the issue of quality in the laboratory and will have an idea about the basic legal aspects of the field.
