Applications of catalysis are shown on important industrial processes. An integrated approach is used to present selected (see the syllabus) heterogeneous, homogeneous and enzyme catalytic processes in chemical, petrochemical, refinery, and pharmaceutical industries. Special attention is devoted to industrial processes in which catalytic principles are applied in the treatment of environmental problems. The automotive catalysis is an important part of the course. Students are invited to prepare a written project task. This project is discussed in detail during the seminars, and, during the final examination.
Aim of the course
Last update: Kubová Petra Ing. (14.01.2018)

After passing this course, students will get deep knowledge in the field of applied catalysis. They could be engaged in managerial positions at production plants where various kinds of catalyst are envolved. This course gives also very high level knowledge for reasearch activities and engineering design od catalytic reactors. The gained knowledge is a good bases for activities in special materials branches.

Other supports to studies.

Besides the recommended literature for studies, there is a plenty of supporting information resources available on the information system of the Central Library of the Institute of Chemical Technology, Prague. The search "catalysis" offers un enormous number of items. An excellent electronic resource is the "Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry", which is up-dated each year. This resource is recommended by the lecturer, and the efficient use of this encyclopedia is demonstrated by him during the seminars.

Requirements to the exam
Last update: Kubová Petra Ing. (14.01.2018)

The crucial activity in this course is the preparation of the project task. It is the whole semester activity. Interim discussions on the project with the lecturer on seminars, together with the inspirations comming from the lectures on established catalytic processes, increase the quality of the final report. The written final report is defended as the part of the oral examination.

Entry requirements
Last update: Patera Jan Ing. Ph.D. (28.02.2018)

Basic (bachelor) courses in Physical Chemistry and Chemical Engineering are the prerequisites for the course in Technical (applied) catalysis that increase the efficiency of the teaching process in Technical catalysis.

Course completion requirements
Last update: Patera Jan Ing. Ph.D. (28.02.2018)

Students have to develop a project task that they work on throughout the semester. For the final exam, it is also necessary to prepare a protocol and its defense.
