The course objective is a description of drinking water treatment from ground and surface raw water. Fundamental processes used in drinking water treatment plant are discussed. A part of the course is formed by a student's project dealing.

1. Standards for drinking water quality + EU legislation on drinking water

2. Underground raw water characteristics, underground water treatment

3. Aggressive carbon dioxide, water stabilization

4. Removal of excessive carbon dioxide, removal of iron and manganese

5. Special methods of underground water treatment (including removal of nitrogenous compounds and radio nuclides)

6. Surface raw water characteristics

7. Surface water treatment, coagulation

8. Mixing of suspensions, mixing devices

9. Clarifiers, filtration of suspensions

10. Separation of suspensions by sedimentation

11. Thickening of suspensions and sludge

12. Special methods in drinking water treatment (membrane processes, ion exchange)

13. Disinfection of drinking water
