Annotation -
The course is focused on the principles and advanced applications of modern isolation and separation techniques including representative detection methods. Methods are discussed with regard to practical aspects and problems that are normally encountered. Framework of studied methods: isolation in gaseous, liquid, supercritical and solid phase; gas and liquid chromatography, including conventional detectors, mass spectrometry.

Students will be able to understand:

1. Principles, technical configurations and application potential of sample preparation methods

2. Principles, technical configurations and application potential of gas and liquid chromatography including the application of conventional detectors

3. Principles, technical configurations and application potential of mass spectrometric methods based on various principles of ion separation

2. Isolation methods in gas phase - purge & trap (PT), head space (HS)

3. Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE)

4. Liquid extraction – techniques: liquid-liquid extraction (LLE), liquid-solid extraction (LSE)

5. Liquid extraction at elevated temperature and pressure (ASE-PLE, MASE)

6. Solid phase extraction (SPE); solid phase micro-extraction (SPME)

7. Adsorption chromatography (LSC); gel permeation chromatography (GPC)

8. Dispersive solid phase extraction (MSPD, QuEChERS)

9. Gas chromatography – parameters; separation process, injection techniques; columns, detectors; GCxGC

10. Liquid chromatography – parameters; separation process, columns, detectors
