The course starts with general questions of team engineering design and project control methodology and after that covers basic areas of activities used for control system design during its life cycle. Throughout the course students obtain practical skills in individual and group projects.
Aim of the course -

Students will:

(i) be able to plan and control projects according to the internationally accepted methodology of Project Management Institute (PMI)

(ii) be acquainted with complex matters of control systems design on the level enabling them communication with other members of multidisciplinary design teams

(iii) be able to design and implement small control systems individually and in groups

3. Life cycle of a control system project

4. Automation benefits, automation project justification

5. Feasibility study, degrees of automation, different types of control systems

6. Control system documentation – types and usage of documentation

7. Control system specification – detailed requirements establishing

8. Conceptual and detailed design of control system – complete functional description and detailed design of automation solution

9. Software development and coding – implementation of human-machine interface, control structures and data transfers, testing

10. Reliability and safety of control systems, alarm subsystem

11. Digital communications, industrial networks, network security

12. Deployment - field installation, checkout and startup of the system, tests of system functions

13. Troubleshooting, the seven-step troubleshooting procedure

14. Maintenance, long-term support and system management

Participation on the final colloquium with the presentation and discussion of designed control system.
