The aim of the course is to show the basic principles of the wastewater treatment. Types of drainage systems and the main physico-chemical and biological processes used for industrial and municipal wastewaters are described.

1. Definition, origin, classification and characterization of wastewater, different approaches to wastewater treatment, differences between municipal and industrial wastewaters, legislation for wastewater discharge.

2. Transport of wastewater, mechanical pretreatment - screening, sand and grease trap, flow and concentration equalization.

3. Suspended solids separation - sedimentation, filtration, hydrocyclone, flotation, magnetic separation, thickening of sludge by sedimentation.

4. Separation processes - extraction, adsorption, stripping, membrane processes.

5. Chemical wastewater treatment - neutralization, precipitation, coagulation, oxidation and reduction.

6. Fat, oil and grease removal - separation, emulsion breaking.

7. Municipal wastewater treatment plant flow sheet, wastewater pretreatment, construction of primary settling tanks, primary sludge disposal.

8. Terminology of biochemical processes, kinetics of microorganism growth and substrate removal, types of reactors according to flow and hydraulic régime.

9. Activated sludge process, microbial composition of activated sludge, technological parameters and modifications of activated sludge systems, principles of organic carbon compounds removal.

10. Aeration, oxygenation capacity, factors affecting oxygenation capacity, principles and systems of biological nutrients removal, chemical precipitation of phosphorus.

11. Activated sludge separation, principles of activated sludge flocs formation, evaluation of activated sludge settling properties, separation problems, identification of activated sludge microorganisms.

12. Secondary clarifiers, tertiary treatment, membrane bioreactors.

Biochemistry I, Chemical Engineering I

Předmět je zakončen zkouškou, která se skládá z písemné a ústní části. Podmínkou účasti na ústní zkoušce je úspěšné absolvování písemné části.

Písemná část zkoušky se skládá ze dvou částí:

1) stokování a fyzikálně-chemické metody čištění (maximálně 50 bodů)

2) biologické procesy při čištění odpadních vod, městské ČOV (maximálně 50 bodů)

Pro úspěšné absolvování písemné části zkoušky je nutné dosáhnout celkově aspoň 50% úspěšnosti (tj. minimálně 50 bodů ze 100) a současně minimálně 35% úspěšnosti (tj. minimálně 18 bodů z 50) v každé z obou částí.

Na psaní testu je k dispozici 120 minut. V případě pozdního příchodu studenta na test je psaní umožněno, avšak bez náhrady zmeškaného času. V průběhu psaní testu je dovoleno používat pouze psací a rýsovací potřeby. Není dovoleno použití žádné literatury ani jiných studijních pomůcek, notebooku, elektronického diáře apod. V průběhu testu není umožněno opouštět místnost, nesmí se používat nepovolené pomůcky včetně telekomunikačních prostředků a není dovolena ani vzájemná komunikace mezi studenty. Nerespektování těchto pravidel je důvodem k okamžitému odebrání testu studentovi, bez možnosti náhrady.

Vylepšení klasifikace B – E je možno absolvováním zkoušky v opravném termínu po předchozí domluvě se zkoušejícími. Do celkové klasifikace se započítává známka z posledního absolvovaného termínu zkoušky.
