The course describes chemical and physicochemical reactions taking place at plasticization and modification of polymers, gelatinization of polymer compounds and vulcanization of rubber compounds, blowing and fibre forming. Mechanisms of action of plasticizers, antidegradants, crosslinking agents, activators, and accelerators of crosslinking. Degradation, corrosion, ageing and resistance of polymeric materials. Chemical and biological aspects of polymer waste handling.

Students will be able to:

Appreciate processing and utility properties of polymers and additives.

Formulate and prepare polymer compounds and design methods of their processing from the point of view of products exploitation.

Appreciate hygienic, health, and medicinal aspects of polymeric materials.

Design methods of polymer waste handling.

3. Physical and mechanochemical modification of polymers.

4. Gelatinization of thermoplastics compounds, vulcanization of rubber compounds, and curing of thermosets.

5. Additives for polymers focused on chemically effective types.

6. Processing of polymer blends focused onchemical reactions at blowing and fibre forming.

7. Hygienic, health, and medicinal aspect of polymeric materials uses.

8. Degradation, corrosion, ageing and resistance of polymeric materials.

9. Chemical and biological aspects of polymer waste handling.
