The course is focused on the issues of production, properties and application of adsorption materials in technical practice. This course will provide students with an overview of the manufactured kinds of adsorbents, areas for their use and the appropriate types of adsorption equipment used in individual cases to specific industrial applications. Students will learn how to choose the optimal type of adsorbent for the specific cases of operational practice, to propose a suitable type of device and determine its operating parameters.

If there are on the course logged at least 2 students, teaching is performed in the form of lecture blocks (always 4 hours of lectures), a total of 20 hours of lectures. The term lectures is set individually after agreement with the students. Part of the lectures is also one block dedicated to designing the adsorption equipment and calculations required for equipment size in the specific application cases. After the lectures, students prepare presentation on a selected theme (adsorbents suppliers, manufacturers of adsorption device adsorbents, etc.) and calculate model example focused on a proposal of the adsorption equipment for specific operational application.

If it is in the academic year logged only one student, teaching is performed in the form of the consultations, provided educational materials.

Syllabus -

1. Production of adsorption materials (carbonaceous adsorbents, silica-gels, zeolites)

2. Significant properties of adsorbents (BET surface area, adsorption pore volume, hardness)

3. Fundamentals of adsorption (basic concepts, theory of adsorption, their use in the practice)

4. Methods of testing of adsorbents (simple and complex methods)

5. Adsorption equipment (gas cleaning, liquids cleaning, other applications)

6. Design of adsorption device (methods for the calculation and design of the adsorption device, determination of working parameters, examples of calculations)
