The subject deals with cellular and molecular biology of host-pathogen interactions, placing a particular emphasis on mechanisms by which bacteria manipulate the immunity of the host. Specific attention is paid to regulation of gene expression and to genes involved in virulence of bacterial pathogens. The mechanisms of evasion from host immunity and action of adhesins, toxins and other virulence factors are analyzed in detail using prototypic examples of human and animal pathogens.

Předmět je zaměřen na buněčnou a molekulární biologii a imunologii interakcí patogenních baktérií s hostitelským
organismem a manipulaci anti-infekční imunity hostitele. Specificky je pojednáno o regulaci genové exprese a
genové výbavě bakteriálních patogenů. Podrobně jsou probírány mechanismy úniku bakterií před imunitou hostitele a
působení adhesinů, toxinů a dalších faktorů virulence. Koncepty interakcí patogen-hostitel jsou podrobně
demonstrovány na vybraných příkladech patogenů savců a člověka.

Studenti získají pokročilé znalosti z oblasti bakteriologie, antiinfekční imunity, mechanismů virulence patogenů a buněčné biologie působení bakteriálních toxinů. Praktické využití získaných poznatků se nabízí v oblasti vědecké práce a při praktickém stanovení původců infekcí a kontaminantů potravin a klinické diagnostice infekčních onemocnění, nebo při vývoji nových očkovacích látek.
