The course is focused on the introduction of the multicompartments models based on simple principles of physical chemistry which are used for the prediction of the distribution and transport of polutants in the environment (abiotic and biotic). Acquired knowledge may be used to solve the issue of environmental damage, environmental accidents and risk assessment for ecosystems and human health. Students will address specific examples dealing with some environment problem. The course offers practical demonstrations of selected programs for modeling environmental contamination.
Aim of the course -
Last update: TAJ240 (18.11.2013)

Students will be able to:

  • apply theoretical knowledge of physical chemistry to estimate the distribution of the substance between two components or multicomponent system and their transport in the environment (or the soil environment)
  • use some programs / RISC4, Geochemist Workbench etc.
  • search physicochemical properties of the pollutants in available resources
  • understand basics of risk analysis and evaluation of environmental damage
