Within this course, students get information about the laboratory-based strategy in forensic expertise based on modern analytical methods applicable by both specialized forensic laboratories and research institutions. In the first phase, sampling techniques will be presented with the focus on specific features of respective matrices. The following lectures then introduce individual groups of instrumental and bioanalytical techniques; their application is demonstrated on various case studies. Attention is also paid to the issues related to quality assurance of analytical data and their interpretation.

Students will be able to understand:

  • Principles and applications of sample handling in forensic analysis.
  • Principles and applications of separation and spectrometric methods in forensic analysis.
  • Principles and applications of bioanalytical methods in forensic analysis.
  • Principles and applications of multivariate data analysis and databases in forensic analysis.
