The course introduces the basic, structurally derived groups of natural compounds, their properties, reactions and occurrence in organism. It explains also basic concepts relating to structure of molecules, their stereochemistry and/or chirality, including structure-biological activity relationships, e.g. for narcotics. The course deals also with enzymatic and biomimetic reactions.
Aim of the course -

Students will be able to:

Classify natural compounds into individual structural classes

Describe structure, properties and reactions of individual classes of natural compounds and their biogenesis

Assess structure-reactivity relationships

Depict reaction mechanisms of basic reaction types
