The course is aimed at questioning the origin, the meaning, and the need for education / training. The course focuses on the discussion of basic issues of philosophy of education, reading, and coverage corresponding texts. Form of the course thus combines the form of a lecture with the form of a seminar. Students do home critical reading of texts that will be discussed. One of the students then reports the text and chairs the discussion.

1. analyze the fundamental problems of philosophy of education and will be informed about their solutions

2. report critically philosophical texts and chair discussion

3. look up individually information and rationally argue for different opinions

1. What is the philosophy of education? What for? Explanation of basic concepts (philosophy, paideia, agogo).

2. Where is the origin of our concept of education? Ancient understanding of education: Sophists, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle. 

3. Can be a correct model of education found? Paradigms of philosophy of education; Aristotle versus Rousseau, traditional versus liberal education, developmental psychology: Kohlberg, versus classical liberal model: Montessori, Waldorf School. 

4. Does education needs its goal? John Dewey (modern philosophy of education); analytic versus continental conception of education, over-educated society (Illich)?; education and body (O'Loughlin). 

5. Is there an alternative to western model of education? Education in other cultures. Universality of the Western model of education or ethnocentrism? 

6. What should be the role of the state in education? Private versus public education; separation of state and education?; educational policy autonomy and education for democratic citizenship. 

7. Does exact science teach the truth? Exact education and epistemology, the role of truth; anarchism, realism, pragmatism, the role of ethics.
