The course attempts to take an overarching look at selected key topic from European history and culture, focusing on the long 19th century and short 20th century. The course is based on seminar work with selected primary and secondary texts and other cultural artefacts. Topic areas covered as part of the course include: The Long 19th century: The Long 19th century: The Age of Revolutions II, World War I, Modern Art of the Modern World: Philosophy & Literature, World War II, Europe after WWII: Cold War I, Europe after WWII: 1950s and 1960s, Europe after WWII: A Brief History of European Integration, Europe since 1968, European Art After 1945: Cinema, Multiculturalism and Liberal Society.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will become familiar with selected issues from European history and culture. The aim of the course is to provide with a good working knowledge of these issues allowing for practical orientation in European history and culture.
