The lectures are given only in even years and is not a continuation of Selected chapters I. Subject is composed of three modules, 8h each: 1. Living/controlled polymerizations (Dr. J. Merna) Definitions, mechanisms of controlled polymerizations, strategies of macromolecular architectures synthesis, physico-chemical properties and application of advanced polymer systems 2.Polymers from drug delivery and release (Dr. R. Laga) Overview of polymer systems for targeted drug transport and controlled drug release. Principals of controlled drug release, systems for controlled drug release in organism (matrix systems, membrane systems, systems for transdermal delivery, polymer systems with activated drug release, nanoparticles, liposomes, soluble polymer carriers, vectors for gene therapy). Controlled drug delivery, systems with passive and active targeting. 3.Polymer nanocomposites (Dr. A. Kadeřábková) Basic definitions, nanocomposite types a methods of their preparation, nanofillers types, analytical methods for nanocomposite structure investigation, industrila use of nanocomposites The subject follows up with the other subjects of Polymer Manufacture and processing technology program and increases the knowledge in special and perspective fields of polymer technology. Final test from all modules takes place in last week of semester.

Students will be able to:

Suggest a method of preparation and characterization of polymer nanocomposite material

Understand the principles of controlled drug release, students will get an overview about basic polymer systems for drug delivery and release

Suggest a suitable method for controlled synthesis of basic polymer architectures
