Annotation -
The main aim of the course is to summarise the current state of knowledge on the energy and chemical utilisation of solid fuels. The focus will be on fossil solid fuels (coal) as well as renewable (biomass) and alternative fuels (TAP). The aim of the course is to improve the students' orientation in this field and to acquire the knowledge necessary for the successful application of graduates in practice. In the course, students will be introduced to the sources of each fuel category, their characterisation, the specifics of their extraction and treatment, and the technologies of their end-use utilization. The production of blast-furnace coke, as a raw material currently necessary for high-volume iron production, will be discussed. These technologies will be discussed in terms of both their efficiency and their environmental impact. The audience will be introduced to demonstration and commercial technologies from both the Czech Republic and the world.

Aim of the course -

Students will gain knowledge about the composition of different solid fuels, their deposits, reserves, processing technologies, the importance of individual fuels among fuel-energy sources, and the possibilities of their utilization.

Students will also gain knowledge of the basic technologies of coke production, processing, and use of the main products of coal coking, as well as be informed about the calculations of the basic apparatus used in the chemical part of the coking plant and the impact of coal coking technology on the environment.
