The course is designed as a cross-section of the basics of process measurement and control, with a focus on chemical, food and biotechnological processes. The lectures are devoted to technological diagrams with regard to design using specialized software, methods of measurement and sensors of process quantities (e.g. temperature, pressure, flow, level, concentration, mass, etc.) and their involvement in industrial processes. Furthermore, the explanation is oriented to mathematical models of processes, controllers, control loops and actuators. In practical exercises students acquaint themselves with the software for data acquisition and processing and with simulated calculations which verify the setting and function of the controllers on the industrial processes.

Students will be able to:

Analyze the static and dynamic properties of the control loop.

Understand principles of sensors used for measurements of basic technological quantities (temperature, pressure, flow, level, composition).

Set PID controller.

Understand basics of logical and computer control of technological processes.

1. Introduction to measurement and control in chemical, food and biotechnological processes, basic concepts of instrumentation and control schemes of technological processes using visualization software

2. Fundamentals of mathematical modeling, analysis of technological systems

3. Dynamic properties of technical systems, classification of systems according to their dynamic properties, simulation of dynamic behavior of systems,

4. Controllers of type P, PI, PID, their properties and use, actuators

5. Control circuit, continuous, two-position and three-position control

7. Industrial methods of temperature measurement
