Dietology is mainly involved in medical nutrition for people with the need for restrictive or other specific diets. The initial two lectures are devoted to information on the principles of optimal nutrition for some community groups such as nutrition in the elderly, children, pregnant women and athletes. Customize medical nutrition (i.e. dietetics) deals with the nutritional needs of diabetics, people with disorders of lipid metabolism (e.g. hypercholesterolemia), followed by patients with cardiovascular system (heart disease, hypertension, atherosclerosis). In this context, it is further mentioned requirement to diet for reducing mode in obese individuals. The course includes cases where it is absolutely necessary long-term or permanent treatment with dietary restriction of one nutrient, such as pancreatic diet, diet for gallbladder disease or certain severe kidney disease. A specific part is a diet in celiac disease and diet in phenylketonuria. Information about commonly used dietary supplements, their suitability or need, but also the risks that may occur during their excessive use is included at the end of the lecture series.
