The course integrates economic thinking, management, business, and entrepreneurship, providing a foundation for understanding how technical, economic, and managerial aspects jointly influence the functioning and success of an organization. The aim is to enable students to perceive their professional and technical knowledge within a broader economic and organizational context. In practice, it is not sufficient to come up with a good technical or innovative solution. It is also necessary to assess whether its implementation is economically viable, what costs and benefits it will generate, what risks are associated with it, and how it can be effectively integrated into the functioning of an organization. Equally important is the development of business and entrepreneurship skills, which naturally connect technical knowledge with economics, management, and innovation. An excellent technical idea does not automatically translate into a successful product or project. Students therefore need to be able to assess its feasibility and economic return, understand customer needs, evaluate available resources and risks, and subsequently identify an appropriate way to implement the idea successfully.
Students will become familiar with the basic concepts and terminology of business economics, gain an overview of the three-balance-sheet system of an enterprise, develop an understanding of the classification of costs and revenues, and become familiar with the basic principles of profit management. Attention will also be paid to indicators used to evaluate the efficiency of business activities and to the fundamentals of financial management.
The course also provides an introduction to business and entrepreneurship. Students will gain an understanding of how a business idea is developed, how entrepreneurial opportunities can be identified and assessed, and how to think about creating value for both customers and the business. These activities will be supported by basic knowledge of management, through which students will be introduced, at a general level, to the fundamental theoretical approaches and principles of organizational management. They will gain an overview of the main managerial functions, particularly planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, and of their interconnection with human resource management, employee development, and staffing within an organization.
