The subject is focused on exercising transformations in organic synthesis which is followed by introduction of novel approaches used for selective introduction and transformation of functional groups including application of protecting groups.

apply methods for introduction of organic functional groups

transform and remove various functionalities in organic molecules

construct various carbon chains of complex organic molecules

selectively protect functional groups in multi-functional compounds

design syntheses of organic compounds on intermediate level

1. Principle of protection in organic synthesis. Selectivity of protection and deprotection.

2. Modern methods for preparation and synthesis of carbonyl compounds and carboxylic acids.

3. Halogenation. Chemoselectivity and regioselectivity.

4. Alkylation a acylation reactions - introduction. Alkylations and acylation in aromatic compounds, selectivity.

5. Selective alkylation - tool for synthesis of amines, ethers and thioethers.

6. C-alkylation: important tool for carbon chain construction.

7. Formation of organometallic compounds.

8. Aplication of organometallic compounds.

9. Selective introduction of nitrogen-containing functional groups.

10. Transformation of nitrogen-containing derivatives.

11. Elimination reactions in organic synthesis. Chemoselectivity and regioselectivity.

12. Redox reactions in organic chemistry - introduction.

13. Reduction methods in organic chemistry. Selectivity.

14. Oxidation - tool to increase oxidation state of the molecule. Modern stoichiometric and catalytic oxidation method.

It is compulsory to pass two seminar tests with the average result at least 50%,written examination test with the result at least 50%, and finally to pass successfuly the oral examination.
