Biotechnological processes currently affect many areas of human activity. In this course, students are introduced to the general principles of biotechnologies. Subsequently, the individual elements of the biotechnological process are demonstrated on a model with a microbial producer, including the selection and preparation of raw materials, the preparation of industrial cultivation media, the characterization of industrial strains, the arrangement of the processes and their regulation. A separate section of the course is devoted to processes using plant or animal cells. The general knowledge is complemented by examples of processes of biotechnological production of important compounds and decontamination of the environment. During the seminar, students prepare a project describing an example of biotechnological production.

Attendance at lectures is recommended but not monitored. The course includes an e-learning component where students can find instructions and topics for the credit project, lecture presentations, and other supplementary materials. Consultations are available to all students upon request, both in person and remotely. To obtain the course credit, students must actively and personally participate in the preparation and presentation of the project. Course completion for students with individual study plans or specific learning requirements: Credit is awarded based on the submission of a written study, which verifies the student's competencies at a level equivalent to the requirements of in-person attendance.
