Biotechnological processes currently affect lot of areas of human activity. Students are introduced to the general principles of biotechnologies and their classification. Subsequently there are discussed individual parts of biotechnological processes on the model of microbial producer, including a selection of raw materials, preparation of industrial culture media, characterization of industrial strains, processes arrangement and their regulation. A separate section is devoted to differences of processes using plant or animal cells. General knowledge is further explained in detail on examples of processes used for production of important compounds or decontamination of environment. In the seminar, students prepare thesis devoted to biotechnological production of a selected substance.
