The course deals with the separation of ionic components of water with chemical and physico-chemical methods. It focuses on acquiring knowledge of water treatment in terms of technology, economics and environmental impact. The main focus of the course is devoted to ion exchange, sorption and membrane processes. Distillation, precipitation, clarification and electrochemical processes are also explained.

Students will be able to: Characterize the individual procedures of desalination methods. Propose the technology of treatment of the given type of water (sea, brackish or surface) for the preparation of drinking water or demineralized water utilizing ion exchange, sorption and membrane technologies. Also, they will be able to use desalination processes to treat the process water and for the selective separation of cations and anions and the removal of organic substances.
