The course focuses on thermodynamic principles of energy transformation (thermal cycles, renewables, fuel cells), technical and technological background of power plant operation (conventional thermal and nuclear power plants, combined cycle, heat pump etc.) and basics of water treatment and material issues in power engineering. In seminars, introduction of mass and thermal balance calculation of the steam generator and the calculation of the size of demineralization station is presented.

Students will be able to: Understand the thermodynamic principles and operational parameters of conventional thermal and nuclear power plants, combined cycle, refrigeration cycle and heat pump, principles of corrosion processes and corrosion prevention in power cycles. Calculate mass and thermal balance of a steam generator and the optimal size of demineralization line.
