The transfer of theoretical knowledge of the subject lectures Ecotoxicology into practice. Students will learn the foundation of selected ecotoxicological tests on organisms of different trophic levels (decomposers, producers, consumers) terrestrial and aquatic environments, methods of evaluation and statistical analysis of the results and their subsequent interpretation.

Students will be able to:

  • perform basic ecotoxicological tests with aquatic and terrestrial organisms (microorganisms, aquatic crustaceans, aquatic macrophytes, algae, soil invertebrates, terrestrial plants)
  • perform statistical evaluation and interpretation of ecotoxicological data
  • evaluate protocols on ecotoxicological issues.

The labs are designed as a 14-day batch (from October to December). The exact date will be announced at the beginning of the semester.

Attendance is mandatory. Student after exercise up and gives reports of individual laboratory protocols within the specified time.

Preparation and pre-treatment of samples for toxicity tests. Working with a microscope, working in a sterile box. Breeding and cultivation conditions of the test organisms. Planning of experiments, the choice of the concentration series, statistical evaluation of data. Test of acute toxicity to aquatic crustaceans (Daphnia magna). Test on brine shrimp (Artemia salina). Growth inhibition test on chlorococcal algae (Desmodesmus subspicatus). Growth inhibition test of aquatic macrophytes - duckweed (Lemna minor). Terrestrial test - inhibition of root growth of lettuce (Lactuca sativa). Test of inhibition of dehydrogenase activity of soils. Behavioral test with soil invertebrates. Bioluminiscence inhibition test on Vibrio fischeri.
