Annotation -
Laboratory course complement subject "Analysis of fuels." The aim of the laboratory is to teach students to determine different properties of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels.

Students will be able to:

Perform analysis of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels by selected methods.

Work out a laboratory protocol on the analysis.

Syllabus -

The course consists of laboratory tests, which are focused on fundamental analysis of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels. Student has to get through seminar on the principles of elaboration of protocols and introductory seminar on oil products. Then student get through 10 assigned laboratory tests from a list of 24 listed ones.

Examples of tests are listed below.

1. Distillation test and flash point of fuels

2. Low temperature properties of fuels

3. Determination of oxygen and water in alcohol and gasoline mixtures

4. Rheology of petroleum fractions

5. The density of petroleum products

6. Determination of moisture, ash and volatile matter in coal

7. Sulphur content according Eschke

8. Calorimetry - gross and net calorific values

9. Basic analysis of gaseous fuels, calculation of gross and net calorific values

10. Low-temperature carbonization test of coal

11. Heavy fuel oil - determination of gross and net calorific values, ash content and sulfur content

12. Determination of the corrosivity of petrochemical products

13. IR spectrometry - determination of octane number, determination of type of oil

14. Emissions from the combustion of gaseous fuels
