The aim of the course is to make students acquainted with modern approaches to the characterization of heterogeneous catalysts by spectroscopic methods, with emphasis on experiments under conditions in situ or Operands. In addition to repeating of method principle and the process of the catalysts preparation, the main procedures of structural and surface analysis of catalysts in the process of their preparation, using and deactivation are discussed. Lectures are supplemented with examples of solutions of structural problems and dealing with the relationship between the structure and activity of heterogeneous catalysts.

  • independently evaluate and discuss the obtained data
  • choose the appropriate combination of methods for the characterization of any catalyst

1. Preparation of catalyst and its characterization, overview of available methods

2. Electron spectroscopy (XPS, UPS, AES, EELS)

3. Ion spectroscopy (SIMS, SNMS, LEIS)

4. Vibration spectroscopy (infrared, Raman)

5. Temperature-programmed techniques(TPR, TPO, TPD)

6. Difraction techniques (XRD, EXAFS) and microscopy (TEM, SEM, STEM, STM, AFM)

7. Demonstration of the most of the described techniques
