The course introduces students to the basics of conservation, restoration and preventive conservation for archival and library collections. The student is familiar with the physico-chemical properties, methods of production, mechanisms of damage, methods of conservation and restoration of materials of archival collections(paper, leather, parchment, wax, photographic materials). The course includes the basics of preventive conservation for these collections climatic conditions of storage, materials suitable for long-term storage, disaster planning, construction of purpose-built archive buildings).
