Annotation -
The subject "Biopharmaceuticals" is dedicated to a general description of rapidly developing field of pharmaceutical industry to the students. Main drugs produced by conventional biotechnological processes (antibiotics, alkaloids, etc.) will be mentioned in an abbreviated form and then recombinant technologies, which are used for the production of biodrugs, will be explained. In the general part of the course, attention will be paid to the differences in the production of small molecules and proteins, after that different types of biodrugs, their indications and functions in the human body, and pathology will be discussed. Students also have to prepare their own presentations on given topics.
