Within this course, principles and key applications of modern isolation, separation and detection techniques commonly used in the field of studies / characterization of biologically active compounds. Special attention is paid to (i) application of basic and advanced extraction techniques; (ii) effective separation strategy realized by gas / liquid chromatography; (iii) presentation of various instrumental techniques with a special focus on mass spectrometry and its presentation in case studies. To obtain the credit, it is necessary to prepare a group project (3-4 students) in the form of a presentation, which summarizes several case studies in the analysis of a selected group of biologically active substances. 5 Liquid chromatography (theory, selection of chromatographic system, columns and classification of stationary phases, conventional detectors, optimization and influence of various parameters on the separation process)
6 Mass spectrometry (introduction and characterization of application potential, ionization techniques, mass analyzers, ion mobility, detection)
7 Analysis of volatile compounds, GC-MS (case studies)
8 Analysis of environmental contaminants by GC-MS (case studies)
9 Analysis of environmental contaminants by LC-MS (case studies)
10 Bioanalytical methods I (biosenzors and portable systems for food analysis)
11 Bioanalytical methods II (principles of biomolecular recognition)

Group at MS teams, where students will complete short tests online to verify their knowledge at the end of each teaching block. After the evaluation of the tests, the results will be discussed with the students and the most common mistakes will be explained.
