Annotation -
The aim of the course is to teach students the part of environmental microbiology concerning the occurrence of contaminants in environment and their biodegradation. Emphasis will be placed on the main principles of biodegradation and bioremediation. In addition, the course focuses on the various types of environmental contamination with harmful substances (e.g. contamination by petroleum products), microbial decomposition of these harmful substances in the environment and methods detecting degradation process. Part of the subject will be directed to the laboratory experiments. Students will obtain theme of a real problem. They have to suggest the procedure, realize it in the laboratory, present and discuss obtained results.
