Anotace - angličtina
The course provides a basic overview of the field of socio-economic geography. Its syllabus consists of basic topics of socio-geographical sub-fields (sectors of the economy, population, cities, technology, also internet). The conclusion of the course is focused on the geography of the Czech Republic and the Central Bohemian metropolitan area with the Capital City of Prague. Cartographic methods and geoinformation systems are not left out too. Exercises are devoted to deepening the knowledge and ability of students to search for information in individual topics

Credit will be awarded for gaining at least 2/3 points from written tests, based on knowledge and ability to search for information. The course ends with an oral exam.

1) Introduction to social, economic and regional geography, research methods and techniques, quantitative methods, basic data sources

2) Cartographic methods of expression of socio-geographical phenomena, thematic cartography, geographical information systems, spatial analysis of phenomena

3) Population geography - structure, spatial differentiation, development of world population, natural and mechanical movement of population, incl. geography of religion and culture

4) Settlement geography - cities as engines of innovation and economy, urbanization process, megalopolis, agglomerations, conurbations, metropolitan area, urbanized areas, world cities and trends

5) Agricultural geopgrahy (and geography of animal production and minerals), spatial differentiation, long-term development

6) Industrial geography (incl. energy, waste management), localization factors and concentrations of industrial production, production districts, clusters, learning regions, industrial zones

7) Transport geography, accessibility, spatial differentiation, transport as a localization factor

8) Geography of service industries, retail, tourism and social services

9) Geography of banking and finance, capital and global economy, multinational companies, global production networks

10) Geography of information sector and science, universities, world and continental scientific research centers and technological-organizational know-how
