The course provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary, methodological, economic and technological view of the smart city concept. It is based on a continuously updated knowledge framework and integrates the existing knowledge (especially technological and economic) framework of students into the agenda, which is the subject of public interest. The student will get introduced with many examples of good practice, which will be studied through an advanced methodology strictly respecting the cross-sectional paradigm of sustainable development.

Students will be able to describe the holistic principles of smart cities, implement them in the city planning and management, and control descriptive evaluation and methodological framework. They will get enough information and overview of key technologies for SC.

1. Smart city concept in the context of sustainable development. Relevancy, field definition. Paradigm of economic, environmental and social sustainability in smart cities concepts

2. Smart cities indicators. Comparative and evaluation methods. SC pillars (energy, mobility, ICT) of infrastructure projects. Methodical implementation of smart cities in the Czech Republic and the EU.

3. Relationship between smart cities concepts and strategic and master planning of cities. Urban design for SC.

4. Examples of smart cities concepts in the world (Vienna, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Seattle, Malmö, Freiburg). Czech smart cities projects.

5. Smart and sustainable mobility and permeability of cities. New technologies for mobility, parking. E-mobility. Shared mobility. The relation between mobility and the sustainable environment. Business models of sustainable mobility in SC.

6. Smart buildings. Energy and environmentally sustainable construction. Contemporary construction technologies and BIM.

7. Energy concept SC, carbon zero cities. Renewable resources. Smart grids. Energy resiliency and security.

8. Information and communication technologies in smart cities concepts. eGovernance. Smart city and digital agenda. Data and bigdata.

9. Management and administration of Smart cities in practice: data, geoinformatics dabases, geoinformatical modelling, CIM

10. Environmental dimension of smart cities concepts. Climate impacts. Environmental infrastructure (efficient water use and water improvement, waste management, air pollution reduction). Green and water infrastructure in SC. SC and climate protection.

11. Social cohesion. Participation. The human (gender, demography, social) dimension of city planning. Sustainable and affordable housing in SC concepts.
