Předmět seznamuje se základními a strukturně odvozenými skupinami přírodních látek, jejich vlastnostmi, reakcemi, výskytem a funkcí v přírodě včetně živých organismů. Vysvětluje též základní pojmy související se strukturou molekul, jejich stereochemií a chiralitou a to včetně vztahu mezi strukturou látky a její biologickou aktivitou. Předmět se věnuje též biosyntéze důležitých typů přírodních látek a enzymovým i biomimetickým reakcím. Důraz je kladen na medicinální význam popisovaných přírodních látek.

The course introduces basic and structurally derived groups of natural substances, their properties, reactions, occurrence and function in nature, including living organisms. It also explains basic concepts related to the structure of molecules, their stereochemistry and chirality, including the relationship between the structure of a substance and its biological activity. The course also deals with the biosynthesis of important types of natural substances and enzyme and biomimetic reactions. Emphasis is placed on the medical significance of the described natural substances.
